Prof. ZHANG Xu, Neuroscientist, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, TWAS Fellow, Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.
He got his Bachelor's degree in Medicine from Air Force Medical University of PLA in 1985, and received his Ph.D. degree in 1994 from the Department of Neural Science in Karolinska Institute in Sweden. From 1994, he worked successively in Neuroscience Research Institute in Air Force Medical University of PLA as lecturer, associate professor, professor and vice president. He became the professor at Institute of Neuroscience in Shanghai Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the head of the Laboratory of Sensory System in 1999.
In recent two years, Professor Zhang was appointed as the professor at Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in February 2021 and was selected as the Chairman of Shanghai Brain-Intelligence Engineering in March 2021. Afterwards, he served as the President of Guangdong Institute of Intelligence Science and Technology in June 2021. Meanwhile, he was the President of Chinese Neuroscience Society, Vice President of Chinese Society for Cell Biology, Deputy Director of Chinese Association for the Study of Pain and so on.
Previously, Professor Zhang was the Vice President of Shanghai Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Vice President of Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Director of Interdisciplinary Research Center (CAS), Director of Shanghai Clinical Research Center (CAS), Director of State Key Laboratory of Neurobiology (CAS), Executive Director of Shanghai Center for Brain Science and Brain-Inspired Technology and Dean of Zhangjiang Laboratory Brain and Intelligent Science and Technology Research Institute. Also, he took the position as the Executive Council Member of the Biophysical Society of China, etc.
